NFT is a form of unique ownership for digitally available items only and does not necessarily include copyright control. They too have been widely criticized for being a money-maker and a threat to the environment.

Some were surprised to hear that Sir Tim had publicly refused to patent his invention, the BBC reported.

The sale is being handled from Sotheby's auction house, and the proceeds will go to the works chosen by Tim and his wife, Sotheby's said. Sir Tim invented the World Wide Web in 1989, the main modern way we use the Internet.

Sotheby's is auctioning off four different items as a single digital NFT.

They include the original ‘time-stamped files’ of the source code written for the project, the ‘animated view’ of that code, the team’s letter about the process, and the ‘digital poster’ of the code they created.

In total, the files represent approximately 10,000 lines of written code.

Sir Tim said in a press release issued by Sotheby's, "Why an NFT? Well, it’s natural when you’re a computer scientist and when you write code and it’s been around for many years, ’he said.

‘To sign my autograph in fully digital artwork, it feels right,’ he added.

The auction will take place from June 23 to June 30 and open bidding will start from a minimum of $ 1,000.
